Why Chaga?

What is Chaga?

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) also known as the “King of Mushrooms”is a type of fungus that grows on the bark of birch trees in the Northern forests of Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, Estonia, Iceland, Russia, Korea and Alaska.

The King of Mushrooms

Chaga is a mushroom that grows very slowly — over several decades — and eventually becomes a large concentrated mass known as a conk. This conk is what is harvested by Canoom's team of pickers.
Chaga has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine and also amongst Canada's Indigenous peoples.

A Fantastic Fungus

Traditional herbal medicine considers Chaga as one of the most powerful
antioxidants on Earth. It acts as a super adaptogen, giving the body what it needs to return to its natural state.
Its unique combination of nutrients, vitamins and minerals working together give Chaga its immense therapeutic properties.

Health Benefits

The list of purported uses of Chaga over the centuries is long and includes prevention against many of the top killers in North America including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Chaga has historically been used for:

Balancing blood sugar
Lowering cholesterol

There are over 200 + active compounds that can be found in Chaga. It is exceptionally rich in a wide variety of nutrients including B complex vitamins, potassium, vitamin D, calcium, iron, zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, fibre, sterols, amino acids and the super antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD)
The Chaga mushroom contains 19 out of the 20 amino acids required by humans, making it easier to build and rebuild protein, making you stronger and keeping you flexible.
Foremost though are beta-glucans, polysaccharides, polyphenols and the triterpene Betulin. Betulin is abundant in Chaga and has been shown through in-vitro studies to be effective in slowing the growth of a variety of cancer tumors.
